Teen shoots alleged thief in home invasion

A teenager at a Southwest Side home fired shots late Tuesday night at alleged burglars, striking one in the buttocks.

San Antonio police were called to a home in the 8500 block of Timber Wolf Drive at 11:45 p.m., when two men in a blue Honda Civic allegedly dropped off the injured man.

He was taken to University Hospital, where he remains in stable condition under police supervision, officials said. He told police he had been shot at a home where he and his friends had tried to “score some marijuana,” an incident report states.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned the man had been shot in the 5400 block of Prairie Flower, where he allegedly tried to break in, the report states.

Vinny Vasquez, 17, told police he shot at men who were trying to break in through the back door of his family's home, the report states. Officers noticed a set of footprints near the back door and a small amount of blood, the report states.

The man Vasquez shot will likely be charged with criminal trespass, police said. Vasquez is not expected to face charges, police said.
