Let's give him a chance

As we get ready for the New Year, and a new President, let’s take a moment to set our goals for the year. I for one will try to go to church, lose weight, and be a better dad, son, uncle, and husband.

I am going to give our new President a chance and watch to see how he handles the big issues. I am not going to talk down or ridicule him like the left has done with President George W. Bush. I will however, watch the policies that he tries to push through to see if my rights will be infringed. It has been great to see how gracious President George W. Bush has been to the new President. He has helped set up the smooth transition and treated him with the utmost respect. We could not say the same about the Clintons. They bamboozled the Bushes, stole government property, destroyed computers, threw trash around the white house and cleaned out Airforce One.

I will give one prediction for this year. Before the new President is out of his first term we will see his Chicago mob politics catch up with him. We just have to wait; you cannot walk through the barn yard without some of the yard sticking to you.

Even if you did not vote for him, lets respect the office. Happy Trails and keep the lead down range. Clark

Steves a leftist. Bush accomplished a whole lot. America is a safer place since 911. If you dont recognize that then you are being indoctrinated by cnn (clinton news network ) mslsd and the like. Its unfortunate but even fox doesnt do such a great job at projecting the truth. You can find real info in the pages of the wall street journal and on government sites that cover fact and only fact. None of this opinionated crap. This credit crisis is what happens when the big bloated govmnt pokes around in the private sector. CRA community reinvestment act. Thanks Jimmy Carter. 1977. Bill clinton double downed on it forcing banks to open up their credit standards. Big bad govmnt said we got your back with the loans that would be defaulted on. They new that when you lend to bad apples its going to bite the bank in the ass. Govmnt bought up the bad apples, sold them in pakages to other banks (because the house still has value) . Sounded like a winner. Except that Fannie and Freddie were run and extremely under regulated by democrats. shall I name some. Barnie Frank Chris Dodd Maxin Waters Oh yeah the scum bag ceo , Franklin Raines. Republicans in years prior tried to get the dummycrats to take a closer look at their books and clamp down on the regs. But they didnt listen. they took it as some sort of political attack when Republicans just wanted what was right for america. Definition of intelect. One who views a system for exactly how it functions. Dems are suedo intelectuals!! Thats scary. They dont have the ability to see clearly. I love my country I love my freedoms. I have a broken trigger finger. I dont feel like going back to fix spelling.

I don't think the founding fathers would be pleased about the socialist welfare state that the left promotes with policies either. I don't know many politicians today that even understand what the intent of the Constitution.

Give Obama a chance? Has someone been sleeping at the switch. Here you have a very nice website full of information on how law-abiding Americans can expand and engage in their 2nd Amenedment rights and you want to give the most anti-gun President we've ever elected (yep - worse than Clinton) - you want to give him a "chance"? Oh brother....

You said you won't put him down like the Democrats did to George Bush. From my viewpoint, I want to show our new President the same bi-partisan courtesies that WERE shown to our last President. I would think as Americans and out of fairnes that would be appropriate.

While I do not agree with the new President's policies at all, we need to be wary of overindulging ourselves in non-support. While dissent is patriotic, outright cynicism of every move he makes can be dangerous. We saw the same thing when Bush was in office. All of a sudden it bacame ragingly popular to demene his every move. In my opinion the Democrats and the Republicans both have it wrong. They're just the same thing in a different costume. They both want a bigger, more powerful government interveneing more in our lives, just in different areas. I will rejoice the day a Libertarian takes the Head Office, but until then we need to watch what happens and take the necessary steps to preserve our inherent rights. We need to let our politicians know that the ENTIRE Constitution (specifically the Bill of Rights, which has been raped by the Patriot Act, fairness doctrine, and gun control) needs to be adhered to, not just the parts they find convenient.

What every one of you has missed:

You attach gun control to democrats(liberals). While it is true that democrats, back in the late 50's, picked up the mantle of "anti-gun" simply to find an identity that would separate them from the republicans. Of course to believe all of the bull rhetoric that democrats "would leave us defenseless" is just that. History, and I mean true history (not this new republican "revisionists" history) shows that the greatest military build ups, and the greatest wars were engaged by democrats, not republicans. To believe the absurdity of the "weak liberal" you would have to believe that democrats have no families, homes, country, businesses, no wealth to protect. How silly all of this really is.
While I believe that it is our duty to monitor, and fight the attempts to weaken our gun rights, and the Constitution, believing that the likes of Obama will or even could is a stretch.
The fear that some on this site, and what the so called "good Americans" of the far right persuasion seem to forever perpetuate, does nothing to protect our rights. It only serves to separate us, and to cause cyclical increases in the purchase of firearms and CC permits where available.
Most of all, what everyone here seems to constantly forget (not myself) is that the most restrictive gun laws were the direct result of the Reaganites that were there on that fateful day, of the attempt on his life. The Brady bill was lobied, paid for and constantly with great vigor maintained and strengthened by a bunch of previously right wing conservative republicans, not "liberals". Of course the far left of us relished this revelation and siezed upon it.
All of you so called proud right wing conservatives out there constantly wanting to make this a political football between republicans and democrats better learn how wrong they are and embrace the multitude of democrats (majority) that own guns, enjoy guns and the sports and will go to great intelligent lengths to protect our rights, instead of blaming the other party.

A republican freed slaves, yet republicans are the racists.
It's not the late 50's. It's 2009 and our country is being sold right out from under us.

While republicans like to (and I dont blame you)claim the social correct position of "freeing the slaves" there is a ton wrong with this statement. First republicans of Loncoln's day are not in existance today and havent been for a very long time.

Also in the historic time line of the 50's and 60's (again fact not republican revisionist history) the republican party was at a low. very low. They carried the mantle of "segrationists" believe it or not. Segregationists were then, and are now by definition "racists". It was so bad then, when Lyndon Johnson then a senator from Texas, introduced civil rights legislation that the republicans had a near death experience.
Unfortunately at that time the South being predominantly democrat, in citizens and representatives. It was because of their "good ol boy" politics and the hatred for anything inclusive of minorities, (especially blacks) that they formed their very own separatist party called the "Dixicrats". This new party even had a ticket for President and Vice-President and ran against republicans and democrats oposing civil liberties for all.
They were easily beaten, but they all switched parties and built the base "core" of todays republican party. Strom Thurmond being the most notable of the buncfh and Trent Lott leaving in disgrace because of his racist leanings just recently, was one of the newer dixicrats perpetuating the hatred.

If it werent for the racist democrats at that time switching to the republican party because of its basic tenent of "exclusion", the republican party today wouldnt even exist. This is why now the south has been such a republican stronghold.
Of course thanks to Johnson, when he became president he pushed even harder and we finally got the civil rights laws that were so necessary to make this great country "free for all".

I support the new President, and I am smart and educated enough to know that he will not, nor will any president ever infringe on our second amendment rights. And I think many of you would agree that even if anyone ever tried to, they'd have one hell of a fight with some determined Americans on their hands.

Keep in mind that you're not going to agree with everything President Obama does, just as there are a vast number of people who will not agree with all of your beliefs/opinions/etc. It is your constitutional right however to bitch about things you don't agree with, and your RESPONSIBILITY as a civil and mature adult to respect the disagreements others may have with you, without losing your cool.

And we could all just drop the "socialism" bit... Our government is not anywhere near socialism.

This Republican-Democrat back and forth is just too funny. Both parties are selling us out to the highest bidder - when the will of the people is ignored by the Bushster (rhymes with Gangster)in matters of over Spending, Illegial Immigration, Wars on distant shores, (my Dad gave his life for this country), or the current and former Dems on the same matters, you have to wonder who is going to stand up for the Consititution. It seems funny that hacks today think that they - who have sworn an oath to uphold the Consitiution - can so easily attack the very principles and standards established by that Inspired Document as well as the Bill of Rights. Who in the Hell do these people think they are to willy nilly set aside tradition and structure that have served this country for these last 232 years? The arrogiance is without limits. They all should go before they turn this country into 400,000,000 soft, broken, dependant worthless people from the Proud, Strong, Self Sufficient People they were just a few generations ago. And yes I am one of the Proud Stron Self Sufficient People I would expect everyone else to be - General Contractor, Electrical Contractor, Pilot, Successful Businessman, on the Board of a Non Profit that feeds thousands a week in Orange County CA. So I would say "Quit Complaining, Be the Change you want! The U.S need leaders and if you would just step up - your fellow Americans would follow you!
